Top venues for private dining in London Docklands (part 1)
One of the most rapidly developing area of London, The Docklands dining scene has evolved into a destination area with great gastro pubs, wine bars and fine dining all there to be enjoyed. The development’s been so quick it’s hard to keep up, so here’s our run down of the best restaurants and venues in the area with private rooms and dining spaces.

In the heart of the Docklands, this old sugar warehouse is split over two floors and features exposed brick walls mixed with modern touches. The whole venue can be hired for exclusive use, or the private dining room, The Cellar, below the main restaurant, comes complete with a large bar and its own courtyard for 90 guests seated or 300 for a standing event.
The Crystal

Overlooking Victoria Dock, this award-winning restaurant is one of London’s most sustainable venues and has two great event spaces, exclusive hire of the restaurant for up to 80 guests overlooking the Docks, and the Exhibition space surrounded by a living wall for up to 60. All catering is also dedicated to sustainability and group menus start at £42 per person.
The Gun

A uniquely atmospheric venue, The Gun boasts several private rooms all with views of the River Thames and O2; The River Room for 16, The Cabin Room for 22 and The Red Room for 20, as well as exclusive hire of the main restaurant for up to 80 guests. Our summer tip is for drinks and canapé receptions on the heated and covered riverside terrace for up to 110 guests. Exclusive hire of the whole venue can cater for up to 130 seated or 250 guests standing.
The Narrow

Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant bar and terrace just minutes from Canary Wharf has splendid river and City views as well as three private rooms. The River Room for 18, the Boathouse Room for 35 and the Conservatory area with floor to ceiling windows for parties of up to 100. For summer events, we think the terrace is a great space for drink receptions and don’t forget, at weekends there’s also a BBQ.

With a wonderful menu centred around buffalo Mozzarella alongside classical and regional Italian cuisine, this buzzy modern Italian has two rooms for special events, the private dining room for up to 30 or the semi-private dining room for up to 40 – all just a minute from the station.

British Favourites
With fabulous views over the dock and a bright interior with plenty of natural daylight, this well-loved City wine bar group offers two private rooms for hire. The Tasting room can seat 30, while the Grill Room can host up to 70 or 90 for a standing reception. There’s also a bar available for welcome receptions. Did you know?… as well as lunch and dinners, they also host breakfast meetings and cater for all-day functions.

Located inside the five star InterContinental hotel, this restaurant doesn’t fail to deliver a similarly spectacular experience. With fabulous views from its 2nd floor position, the private dining room hosts 24 for seated events, with seasonal menus created to reflect the area’s exotic fruit and spice trade.
Big Easy
American BBQ
Just a stone’s throw from Canary Wharf, this fabulously eclectic American BBQ restaurant offers surf n’ turf with slushie cocktails and more. It boasts several areas available for private hire, from the brilliantly stylised Captain’s Table for 26 guests where Hook or Blackbeard wouldn’t look out of place to the Rum Bar for 100 which has nightly live music, the Chef’s Table for 12 and Warehouse Bays for up to 50. Menus start at a very accessible £20 per person.

Overlooking Canada Square, this popular destination for contemporary Japanese robatayaki cuisine, has a stylish chefs table for up to 14 with views of the restaurant and chefs working the robata grill. We love… that parties can arrange for bespoke jars of Shochu for guests to enjoy or take home.

As you’d expect from this award-winning chef, the restaurant features seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, creating Tom’s unique brand of modern British comfort food. Breakfast menus start at £12pp and set menus for lunch and dinner are from £39.50.
Set in bright, modern white tile and stripped wood surrounds, the private dining room can seat 16, while the semi-private dining space can seat larger parties of up to 48 (or combined for 60). The whole space can be hired exclusively for 130 or the deli for a standing reception for 80 guests.
Dickens Inn

Set in an original warehouse, this famously atmospheric pub boasts a large function suite, which caters for parties from 4 to 150. With big windows boasting views over the dock, this purpose-built contemporary extension is often used for wedding parties, conferences and private functions. Room hire starts at £1,500, while set menus begin at £22.95 for 2 courses, (£28.95 three courses/four courses £38.95). Canapés start at £8.95 for three.

With picturesque views of St Katharine’s Dock, this independent Spanish restaurant has a private room for up to 25-30 guests. There’s a minimum spend for the room (dependent on time and date of event) and while tapas can be ordered on the day, they advise a pre-arranged tapas sharing menu from the a la carte to ensure the smooth running of your event.

Although this buzzy restaurant doesn’t have a specific private dining room, it does offer side seating by the bar for large groups and parties of up to 50 who can enjoy the atmosphere and open kitchen restaurant. They offer two a limited choice, 3 course party menus which are priced at £24.95 or £27.50.
