The Best Veggie Food at London Restaurants With Private Dining Rooms

Vegetarian food has finally come of age. No more nut roast or cardboard omelette now that chefs far and wide have realised the value and beauty of cuisine minus the meat. There are so many options out there now for vegetarians and non-vegetarians who just want something interesting to eat. We really are spoilt for choice – and about time too!

Mildred’s

The oldest vegetarian restaurant now has four venues, two of which have private dining spaces. In the Soho venue, the private dining room seats from 10-14 guests and can be booked for lunch (12-5pm) or dinner (6.30-11.45pm). Guests are offered the a la carte (there are no set menus). There’s no room hire charge but a minimum spend of £350.

In the Dalston site, there’s a semi- private area for 28 that’s screened off from the main restaurant by a wooden divider. To hire the space for just 2 hours only requires a deposit but for a four hour slot, there’s a minimum spend of £750. The menu is 90% vegan with other vegetarian and gluten free options too and they can offer the full a la carte or set menus on request. Starters range from £5-£7, while mains cost £10-£13 and include dishes such as stir fry, burrito, ‘chicken’ katsu curry, Sri Lankan curry and burgers.

The Gate, Marylebone

One of the longest standing veggie restaurants in London, the Marylebone site offers exclusive hire of its downstairs dining room for up to 40 guests. The private room is spacious, has its own bar and plenty of space for pre-dinner drinks. Most of the menu is vegan and there are also plenty of gluten free options and they cater to most special dietary requirements. Guests are offered a three course set menu based on the a la carte for £28. There’s no room hire, just a minimum spend, dependent on time and date of event.

Tibits, Bankside

One of Europe’s best-known vegetarian and vegan restaurant groups, Tibits has a private room for up to 12 in its Bankside site with a built in hidden wide screen TV complete with conferencing/computer facilities. Catering from breakfast to dinner, the Tibit’s Food Boat serves a wide variety of dishes with influences from around the globe. Bottomless brunch is just £35 per guest.

Norman’s Coach & Horses

A Soho gem that’s been given a new lease of life, it holds up to 30 guests for an exclusive event as Soho’s Secret Tea Room from 12 – 6pm serving a great range of tea items including many gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. After 6pm it becomes the veggie vegan pub dining room where guests can be served light snacks, a single choice menu or reduced a la carte with options such as the five bean burger and signature tofu fish n’ chips. There’s a minimum spend – dependent on time and date of event.

Farmacy

With a private room for up to 20 guests and a glass wall overlooking Notting Hill outside, there’s a large space for drinks before sitting, or guests are also able to have a standing reception at the bar before dining. There’s no room hire, unless the event is for a product launch and there is a very low “easily achievable” minimum spend which varies depending on the time and date of event. With a wide range of plant-based dishes inspired from around the globe, Farmacy offers vegan and vegetarian food, free from dairy, refined sugars, additives and chemicals. Currently guests can pre-order from the main menu but set menus are to be introduced shortly.

Hemsley & Hemsley

The whole of this lovely restaurant in Selfridges can be hired exclusively for between 20 – 30 guests. It’s ideal for baby showers and afternoon teas, as well as more traditional lunches and dinners where guests can enjoy the biodynamic wines and zero dosage champagne, as well as food free from gluten, grains, refined sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Caxton Grill

Although one of the main features of the Caxton Grill at St Ermin’s Hotel is its Josper Grill, the restaurant also boasts its own rooftop garden and urban bee colony, which provides much of the seasonal ingredients in their plentiful vegetarian menus. With a private Dining Room that can cater for up to 10 guests, vegetarian dishes include classics such as English Pea Soup as well as Goat’s Cheese Apricot and Olive Oil Crumble, and Broad Bean Croquettes.

Lyle’s

This exciting new British restaurant in Shoreditch offers a la carte lunches and set dinners. Lyle’s can be exclusively taken over for parties of up to 60 guests and offers a vegetarian tasting menu featuring seasonal ingredients in a four course menu for £49.

The Hive of Vyner St

Book this café shop in Bethnal Green exclusively for a reception for up to 30-40 people. They charge £100/hour for sole use and, although there’s no minimum spend, they do request that every guest eats and drinks something. Other areas of the shop can be reserved for semi-private events without any charge. The menu offers vegetarian, vegan and some pescatarian dishes alongside an extensive list of natural wines imported from Italy.
