Michelin Starred Private Dining in Berkshire

Culinarily speaking, this county is a hot spot for Michelin dining, with stars, rosettes and bib gourmand’s littering the place. Many of these fabulous and iconic dining establishments also have private rooms for discrete and decadent parties, celebrations and – in some cases – weddings. Check them out below.

Waterside Inn – 3 Michelin stars

This legendary Michelin starred restaurant is now run by Alain Roux and offers several options for private events. The Private Room can host parties and events for up to 12 guests and overlooks a beautifully designed courtyard, although it’s also possible to have pre-dinner drinks on the terrace overlooking the Thames. Room hire is charged at 10% of the final bill. The restaurant can also be hired exclusively for up to 75 guests and dance floors and fireworks can be arranged on request. The River Cottage can also host intimate weddings for up to 12 with a room hire charge of £3,000 including refreshments on arrival and fresh flowers.

The Hand and Flowers – 2 Michelin stars

The only UK pub to hold 2 stars, The Hand and Flowers offers The Shed as its private dining option – just moments from the restaurant and opposite Tom Kerridge’s other Michelin starred restaurant, The Coach. Served by the Hand and Flowers team, The Shed seats an intimate nine and is ideal for special occasions and business entertaining. There are three menu options at £95, £125 and £150 per person with all dishes cooked in front of guests.

L’Ortolan, Reading – 1 Michelin Star

This famous restaurant is the only one in Reading with a Michelin star. It has three private dining rooms; The Cellar Room – a deep and opulent room for 13 – 16 guests, The Champagne Room – a light bright and airy room for 8-12 guests and the stunning Glass Room – a modern conservatory area for up to 22 guests. Private dining menus start at £45 per person. Both the main restaurant and Glass Room are licensed for civil ceremonies.

Coworth Park, Ascot – 1 Michelin star

Part of one of the world’s most elite hotel groups, The Dorchester Collection, this is where Harry spent his pre-wedding night, while Megan was holed up in Cliveden (see below). The stunning hotel has a conservatory linked to its Michelin starred restaurant which can be hired privately for up to 16 guests, as well as the semi-private barn for parties up to 30. For larger events of up to 100 guests, there are further private event spaces, catered for by the same kitchen but with different menus, where three courses start from around £55 per person. They also have a license for weddings.

Tudor Room at Great Fosters – 1 Michelin star

Another seriously impressive venue with a Michelin starred restaurant, it’s ideal for any party or bridal parties that want to channel a little Henry VIII. The Michelin starred Tudor Room can seat up to 20 guests, while the three other private event spaces are also stunning; The Mowbray & Mandeville for up to 30 guests; The Orangery & Conservatory with views of the glorious lawns for up to 80, or the atmospheric, oak beamed Tithe Barn & Painted Hall for a maximum of 180. The Michelin starred menu costs £95 per person.

The Hind’s Head – 1 Michelin star

Part of Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck Group, this fabulous building dates back to the 15th Century and is full of character with exposed beams and wood-panelled walls and has a variety of private dining options. The main restaurant can host events for up to 80, while The West Room can cater for up to 36. The Vicar’s Room – decorated in deep reds and with an oak trunk as a table – is also available for business and social events for up to 20. The Royal Lounge can be used for pre or post dinner drinks. Day delegate packages are available, and extra activities such as cocktail masterclasses, talks, wine pairings and even foraging trips can be arranged on request.

Cliveden – 3 Michelin Rosettes

Steeped in 350 years of history– taking in politics, celebrities and scandal, the most recent uber-high profile event was Megan Markle’s stay the night before marrying Prince Harry. There are four private dining rooms available, The Tote Room for a discrete 10 guests, The Cellar Room for 12, The Boudoir for 18 guests on one oval table (or 24 on two rounds), Waldo’s for up to 24 and the French Dining Room up to 60 on five round tables. Menus start at around £70 for three courses and will either be set or reduced a la carte, depending on size of the event.

Artichoke – Rising Star

After reopening in September 2019, the private room on the first floor is now linked to the Charles Heidsieck Champagne house and seats up to 14 guests (minimum of 10). There are four menu options: the Tasting Menu package £95 per person (£145 with matching wines), the Lunch Tasting menu £62 per person (£88 with wines), the three course a la carte package £80 per person and a prestigious tasting menu package with exclusive wines – price on request. There’s no room hire, although a minimum spend may apply.

French Horn – Three red knives & forks

This beautiful restaurant has over 200 years of history and stunning gardens leading down to the River Thames. It also boasts a private dining room for 24 guests that’s available for special events, parties and business meetings. Set menus are available at a very reasonably priced £32.50 for 2 Courses, £39.50 for 3 Courses.

White Oak – Bib Gourmand 

With a multitude of awards including a Michelin Bib Gourmand, the private room can seat just ten but they can also cater for up to 100 guests as an exclusive hire of the whole pub. A popular wedding venue they organise only 10 a year, so it’s worth getting in quickly if you fancy holding your nuptials here! Bib Gourmands award great value restaurants – evident in their 3 course set menu for £19 and 2 courses for £16 – available Mon-Sat lunch and dinner.
