London’s Best Private Rooms for Budget Christmas Parties
You may not have the biggest budget for a Christmas bash but the beauty of being in this wonderfully diverse Capital is the multitude of venues that can deliver significant bang for your buck while offering fun parties, activity parties, gourmet meals and fabulous surrounds for you and your colleagues or friends to enjoy over the festive season.
Malaysian and Chinese – Lagenda
With a variety of spaces that can be hired separately or combined to host up to 150 guests, Lagenda offers a Lounge Bar for 40 seated (60 standing), their Banqueting and Conference Room for 70 seated (150 standing) and exclusive use of the restaurant for seated events up to 100. Private dining menus start at £25 per person and there’s no room hire fee just a minimum spend. Top selling point is the late night lounge bar!
Greek – Pittabun
This modern Greek restaurant in the heart of Soho has a top location and a private room for 20 seated or 40 standing. With a casual dining menu reflecting Greek street food, an open rotisserie and charcoal robata grill as well as deliciously fresh pitta, it lends itself to convivial and relaxed parties within beautiful surrounds of the glass-ceilinged room – all for around £15 a head!
Mexican – Tortilleria el pastor
This small Mexican taco bar from the renowned Hart Group is located under an atmospheric railway arch in Bermondsey and offers exclusive hire for up to 18 guests for a sit down lunch or dinner or 30 as a standing reception. With menus costing around £25 per person, it’s worth keeping a little kitty left over to sample some of their fabulous margaritas, Mexican beers and their own tequila alternative – El Pastor mezcal.
Modern European – Hugo’s
A local favourite, but also a destination venue, this brasserie in Queen’s Park has a private dining room for up to 70 seated or 120 for a standing buffet bash. The wooden floors and relaxed atmosphere are conducive to great evenings out, complemented by delicious but reasonably priced modern European food – the three course Christmas menu is just £28.50 a head. Bands, DJs or Karaoke can also be arranged on request.
Japanese – Sticks n’ Sushi
Great Japanese food never comes cheap but Sticks n’ Sushi offers excellent value and an irresistible combination of traditional sushi, grilled yakitori sticks and offers a selection of chicken, pork, beef and vegetable skewers – meaning that any guests who aren’t into the fishier side of things can also enjoy the meal. With a strikingly simple Japanese décor designed by architects NORM, the private King’s Room seats up to 24 guests and there’s a minimum spend of just £800.
Private Members’ Club – The Fox Club
One of Mayfair’s hidden gems, and moments from Green Park’s tube, you’d never guess the luxury of this chic private members’ club was so affordable. With the main dining room available for hire for up to 30 guests, the Christmas menus start at just £45 per person for three courses, including a glass of prosecco on arrival, tea and coffee and ‘Christmas novelties’ – we presume they mean a cracker! A room hire fee or minimum spend applies.
French Brasserie Groups
It’s worth remembering that both Brasserie Blanc – which has sites in Fulham, Chancery Lane, Threadneedle Street, Tower Hill and Southbank all have a range of private rooms for small and large parties and Christmas dining packages starting from £32.50 per person or £38 with a glass of prosecco on arrival (although prices do vary at different sites). Similarly, Aubaine has multiple sites throughout London – and private rooms in Notting Hill and Mayfair that offer menus starting from around £32 per person.
Gastro Pubs
Many of London’s gastro pubs also offer great value for Christmas parties on a budget.
In Belgravia, The Star Tavern is a hidden gem moments from Sloane Street. The Fullers’ run pub boasts a wood panelled first floor dining room for 34 seated or up to 50 for a standing reception and menus costing a very reasonable two courses for £25 or three for £29 per person.
To the South, the ever-popular Northcote in Clapham also has a first floor dining room for up to 35 guests for a seated dinner or 50 for a standing reception and menus cost from £35 per person for three courses. Also love that carol singing and cocktail-making classes can be arranged by prior request.
Also south of the river, The Prince Albert in Battersea has a private room for up to 50 guests in The Bridge Room and offers sharing platters from £15 each or Christmas menus from £34 per person.
