Clement weather may be sporadic and unpredictable in this country but when it does arise, it’s a great opportunity to take in some of the UK’s fabulous restaurants, hotels and other venues that have great views of our outstanding seaside towns and coastal regions. For those looking to hold parties, wedding receptions and other events in special locations, these venues have fabulous private rooms to match their fabulous views.
Private Dining in Wales, Yorkshire, Northumberland & Scotland
The Beach House, Wales
This stunning restaurant was awarded AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales 2018 and could not be closer to the beach, being set on it. Its incredible positioning and availability for exclusive use makes it perfect for a small corporate dinner parties or intimate weddings. They create bespoke events and flexible menus and don’t charge hire, just working within a minimum spend dependent on the time and date of the event.
Coast, Pembrokeshire, Wales
It’s what they do, so we had to do two – the sister restaurant to the Beach House, Coast on the cusp of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and overlooking the stunning Saundersfoot beach is also available for exclusive hires.
The Beaches Hotel, Denbighshire, North Wales
It’s always a good bet that something with the word ‘beach’ in the name might offer a cracking view or two – and so it is with this 70-bed hotel. Ideal for larger events, it has seven conferencing venues with capacity for up to 200 guests and also caters for weddings, is licensed to hold civil ceremonies and offers a variety of packages – including all inclusive.
Portheirias, Colwyn Bay
This multi-award-winning bistro boasts a bib gourmande from Michelin and 2 AA rosettes as well as views over Colwyn bay and a terrace for drink receptions. Open for breakfast and lunch every day as well as dinner Wednesday to Saturday a whole restaurant takeover can cater for up to 70 guests with acclaimed chef patron Bryn Williams’ menus starting at around £60 per person. Hosting wedding receptions, birthday parties and work events a variable minimum spend applies dependent on the time and date of event.
Harbourfront Bistro, Anglesey
Situated right on the beach and next to The Holyhead Maritime Museum this restaurant is available for exclusive events for up to 28 guests during non-peak periods. Bespoke menus are created for each event featuring their modern British cuisine packed with seafood and other local produce. Depending on the time and date of event room hire may be charged and pre-ordering menus may be requested.
Robinson Crusoes,South Beach, Tyne and Wear
This relaxed wood-panelled, family-run restaurant is situated right on the beach and offers a function room as well as an outside beach terrace. It caters fully for a wide variety of private parties from 50 – 100 guests including birthdays, weddings and corporate events – although it’s worth noting they do not take lunchtime bookings. Packages start from around £25 per person and include a hot buffet, dj, compere and disco.
Estbek House, Yorkshire
This local gem in the picturesque village overlooks Sandsend beach. With one private room for up to 16 overlooking the bay and another for up to 22, this 2 AA rosette restaurant has won a white rose award for two consecutive years. Serving predominantly freshly caught local fish, menus cost around £45-£65 per person and parties are based on minimum numbers not minimum spend or room hire (charges may be incurred for smaller groups). Look out for their signature dishes such as home smoked salmon and basil cheese as well as their miniature desert list with over 20 options and their unique antipodean wine list
The Barn at Beal, Berwick upon Tweed
This family run restaurant has windows onto the Northumberland coast and can be hired exclusively for parties, private functions, wedding or civil partnership receptions for up to 80 for a seated event or 11 for a buffet. Menus feature locally sourced and seasonal produce where possible and they also offer the option of an outside BBQ. Hire charges apply and vary dependent on the season from £600 to £2500 and semi-private spaces within the restaurant can be requested for up to 20 guests (with a small charge).
Knockinaam Lodge, Dumfries & Galloway
Not only is this stunning and multi-award-winning hotel situated on the stunning Scottish coast, but it boasts its own private beach nestled in a cove in one of the most beautiful spots in Dumfries & Galloway and was even featured in John Buchan’s The 39 Steps. With the ability to host weddings, vow renewals, parties and other celebrations for parties from 2 to 70, there’s also the opportunity to hold a beach wedding or have a marquee on the lawn.
Seafood Restaurante, St Andrews
It’s billed as seafood on the seashore and certainly lives up to the tagline. With the option to hire the restaurants exclusively for up to 65 guests or use of the semi-private dining area for up to 14 guests, there’s a room hire dependent on time, date and size of event. For smaller events guests can choose from the fresh seasonal fish-heavy, Italian-leaning a la carte or set menu starting at around £60 per person. Ideal for a wide variety of events it’s used both for business dinners, social events, wedding receptions and parties.
