Hush review
The clue is in the name. Hush is down the tiny alleyway off Bond Street not dissimilar to the hole Alice scurries down to find her Wonderland. A small cobbled square forms the courtyard of Hush and has the feeling of an exclusive private club more than a restaurant open to everyone. But it’s not stuffy, in fact it’s modern, with some hints of industrial thrown in, while remaining warm and comfy. The main areas: Ground Floor Brasserie, Cocktail Bar, and Blades can all be hired separately or as a whole (prices on application). The latter is a unique triangular space with windows on two sides, giving it a lovely airy feel, compared to the warm chocolate browns of the adjacent bar area. A silver velvet banquette, stripy blinds and a silver and black mural of a tree give it a very feminine feel, ideal for girlie lunches, celebratory dinners or even intimate wedding receptions.
Private Dining in Bond Street, London
The private room occupies the entire second floor of Hush. A sparse stairwell decked out with iron railings, light bulbs strung up with wire as if on a building site and a few candelabras leads up to the room. The original parquet flooring is contrasted by modern décor which includes bright orange leather studded bar and banquette running almost the length of the room. There are grey slatted shutters to the windows, which run the length of the room providing plentiful natural daylight. There are low tables and higher cocktail stands, with iron bases and wooden tops, while the glass bauble lights in the centre of the room are augmented by industrial metal lampshades above the banquette and exposed bulbs on the walls.
It’s a very versatile space with a dedicated and experienced front of house team, coming complete with its own bar, cloakroom, satellite kitchen and lift access. The room can be used for anything from parties, to product launches and celebration dinners (60 seated, 100 standing). There’s no room hire but a minimum spend on food and beverage from either £800 for lunch or from £1,800 for dinner. This is negotiable depending on the time of year and subject to availability.
